Post-Class Assignment

Students create a preliminary bibliography of 10 or more Secondary Sources and 10 or more Primary Sources. They will then enter the sources into NoodleTools. Students choose 3 valuable primary sources that they deem the most relevant to their topic or thesis.

Students write an annotation (3-4 sentences) for each one of their 3 valuable primary sources. The criteria for this are the following:

  • Must be a variety of primary sources types, including one image
  • How is the source useful to your thesis?
  • How will the source reinforce your thesis?
  • Why is this source chosen as a valuable primary source?
  • What perspective(s) does the primary source offer in relation to your thesis?

Images "Contrabands at Headquarters of General Lafayette by Mathew Brady," "Confederate Memorial Arlington Cemetery," and "U.S. General Hospital, Hilton Head, South Carolina" are from Wikimedia Commons (http://commons.wikimedia.org/). There are no known restrictions on these image.
