Students will discuss and debate four different interpretations of Reconstruction based on Alan Brinkley’s “Where Historians Disagree: Reconstruction” read in the pre-class assignment.

  • The Dunning School
  • W.E.B. Du Bois
  • Revisionist approach
  • The “Foner” School and contemporary historians

Analyzing Book Reviews

  • Students work independently to analyze the two book reviews they retrieved for the pre-class assignment
  • Students will pull out the common features found in both book reviews and fill out the two tables in the Book Reviews Assignment
  • Copy and paste the Book Review Assignment into your own Google Doc
  • Use the Example of the Book Review Assignment as a guide
