Ecology Project

Your job is to find out more about your local environment and then share as much as you can in the form of a 5-10 minute video recording. We recommend you make a presentation, then use Flipgrid’s screenshare recording feature (note: this works only in two web browsers: Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge) to record your presentation along with your narration.

Part One

  • Give a general definition of this biome.
  • Indicate where this biome is located around the world.
  • Describe the geological features of this area.
  • Describe the climate of this area.
  • Describe the living community of this area.
  • What are some of the species (plant AND animal) that define this biome? Include at least one example of a community interaction (such as a predator-prey relationship or a symbiosis) between two species.
  • What species used to be here that are not any longer? What happened to them?

Part Two

  • Generally describe the human community in which you live. Is it urban, suburban, rural? What is the population density?
  • Where does your electricity come from? Coal? Gas? Nuclear? Wind? Find out the % of each.
  • Where does your water come from?
  • Where does your garbage go? Your recycling? Your sewage?
  • How do you and your family travel from place to place? Subway? Bus? Car? Bike? Plane? Foot?
  • What is your carbon footprint?
  • Where can someone find out more about your government’s efforts to combat climate change?

Once your presentation is complete, record it in Flipgrid! Speak clearly and try more than one take - then you can pick the best one.

After you have submitted your work, you will then need to watch the presentations of a few others and choose one to respond to on Flipgrid with a video response. If someone already has a response, choose someone else! In your response, compare and contrast the government responses of two different locations.

Be sure to include a slide at the end of your presentation with your APA formatted citations.
